Official viral news on the ‘interwebs’ today is that Sam Raimi has signed on to do a film adaptation of the compulsively obsessive PC game, World Of Warcraft or WOW for short.
For those of you who still value your lives in the real world and don’t know what this game is, it is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG.) The game came out in 1994 and now sabotages the lives of 11.5 million suckers every month. Basically, you join, make a character or nine of them, and progressively get better at skills like killing and farming and then you join clans that you can chat with while you run around like a bunch of hooligans and get virtually drunk together and you can imagine what else.
I am very conflicted by this news, because, as you can see, I hate the WOW games, but I love Sam Raimi. He has single-handedly saved the horror genre from becoming mindless, and made it something I can enjoy again. Well, he and Rob Zombie. More news about this is that The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven is also on board. The thought of Warner Brothers aiming to make this action film an epic PG-13 has all of the fans sulking, but now that they have The Dark Knight producer behind the story, that sets new standards for what a PG-13 movie can be. I’m sure people will come flocking to see this film, that is if they can log off long enough to go to the theater.
