Lost In ReviewsNamed after the 2003 film Lost in Translation, Lost in Reviews set out to embody the philosophy of this film in a website. Discouraged with the lack of passion in modern day criticism, founders Angela Davis and Ryan Davis created the entertainment review site in 2009. The idea being that, this would be the go-to place for people to find that something that was missing in their life through film or music.
Ryan is the Editor-in-Chief of Lost in Reviews, a member of The Kansas City Film Critic's Circle, and a key component in the movement to digitally restore the 1986 classic film The Gate. Ryan is also the co-host of Blu Monday a DVD and Blu Ray review show which Lost in Reviews co-founder Angela Davis also appears. While he may be a film and music snob, that doesn't mean you can't be friends. Well it could if you don't like the same bands or films he does, overall it might be best to avoid the subject all together.

Ryan, thank you for your kind words. I was just wondering what you didn’t like about the movie–or rather why you gave it four out of five. Would really like to hear your thoughts.

The reason I didn’t go five out of five with Basterds was that I felt it could have more of the Basterds in the film. Though I truly do think it is the best movie of the year. At the time of the review I felt it wasn’t perfect. The whole Mike Myers scene did not sit well with me. That could also be related to the fact that I think that guy can’t act. Other than those two aspects I really cant think of anything else. If you asked me today I would give it the five out of five but, after seeing the film the four is what I felt. Keep in mind that I saw D-9 just before this, and I will admit that could have contributed.
I will say that not being able to take back my initial ratings after we film a video review has been one of the harder parts of doing this.It could also be related to the fact that we through five out of five out like it was free when we first started the site and now we are trying to be more reserved.

I haven’t seen D9, but I think I know what you mean, and that’s a very perceptive observation. It occurred to me, too, and after reading your thoughts it stands out even more. But at the moment, I think the scene is played for parody, comes off as parody, and that’s why Myers was chosen.
I give Tarantino the benefit of the doubt when it comes to casting. He must have known that when Myers came on screen everyone would know it was Myers, and it’s written like everyone knows it’s Myers.
I haven’t seen your previous reviews, but based on this one, I plan to!
