Lost in Previews – Round Up #2

Welcome to Lost in Previews Round Up #2.  In this edition, we have the trailers for Oceans, Leap Year, It’s Complicated, Peter and Vandy, and Clash of the Titans.

I am a big fan of the Planet Earth series.  I was excited for the movie Earth to come out on Earth Day 2009.  Earth had one of the best trailers.  Being an animal person, the trailer got a few tears from me.  It was just a really well put together trailer with great music and images.  Seeing Earth on the big theatre screen was amazing even though the movie itself was very G and it took liberties with the animals’ natural history.  If you saw Earth, you saw a trailer for Oceans before it.  This trailer is actually Trailer 3 for Oceans but I am guessing the same people who made Earth trailer made this one.  It also has  beautiful images and music.  This is the second movie from Disneynature, and they have a few more in the works which I would guess would be coming out on a yearly basis.  Oceans is released into theatres April 22, 2010 (Earth Day).

Leap Year is a romantic comedy starring Amy Adams (Enchanted) and Matthew Goode (Watchmen) and co-starring John Lithgow and Adam Scott.  The movie is about a woman who decides to propose to her boyfriend, who has moved to Ireland, on February 29, leap day, an Irish tradition.  Unfortunately, bad weather reroutes her flight to Wales and she gets a local innkeeper to drive her to Dublin.  The movie looks pretty funny and Matthew Goode isn’t too bad to look at.  Leap Year comes out January 8, 2010.  We currently have a contest to win advance screening passes to Leap YearEnter here.

It’s Complicated is another romantic comedy starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin.  The movie also costars Rita Wilson, Lake Bell, Mary Kay Place, Alexandra Wentworth, and John Krasinski.  The basic plot is that Jane (Meryl Streep) and Jack (Alec Baldwin) get divorced because Jack cheated.  Jack married his mistress (Lake Bell), but comes crawling back to his ex-wife and begins an affair with her.   The trailer is pretty funny and I have seen at least 3 versions of this trailer.  If the movie is as funny as the trailer, then I will definitely be seeing this one.  We also have a contest to win passes to see an advanced screening of It’s ComplicatedEnter here. In theatres December 25, 2009.

Peter and Vandy is an indie film starring Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler.  It follows the relationship of Peter and Vandy, and according to IMDB, the movie moves back and forth in time.  It looks like a cute movie, and I really like Jason Ritter (have you seen Good Dick?).  Unfortunately, I think you will have to find it on DVD rather than the theatre.  My Netflix queue looks like it’s about to assign a release date for it.

And for the big finale, I present the teaser trailer for Clash of the Titans.  This is of course a remake of the original 1981 film in all its cheesiness.  This remake is however a big budget, big name movie.  Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar) was chosen for the lead.  I feel like I am experiencing Sam Worthington overload at the moment, so I am not too keen on that choice.  He even has the same haircut!  Give him some hair, man!   I am all for Greek mythology which is basically what the whole movie is about.  This movie has some good actors attached to it:  Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Pete Postlethwaite, Danny Huston, and Gemma Arterton (who is also in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time).  One thing I don’t like about this trailer is the music.  The trailer would have come off better if they had some classical soundtrack music attached instead of the rock/metal track.  Maybe they are trying to market it to the 300 crowd.  I hope to see a better first full trailer.  Clash of the Titans could go either way, but the masses will decide on March 26, 2010.
