Below is a video review of Precious with myself (Angela) and Shannon from FrothyGirlz.com After that is a print review just from Angela, enjoy.
Precious is an empowering, yet brutal film to sit through. It is not a movie I would recommend, but one that I think everyone should view at least once. Precious is based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire. Director Lee Daniels (Shadowboxer) held our eyelids open to the truth of young women and the tribulations they can face. “Push” is a composite of the devalued...

The 50’s and several 80′s sci-fi classics receive an affectionate love letter in Planet 51. It’s heart is in the right place, but the weak story, lame jokes and bland characters short the postage to get the kid- friendly homage delivered.
It’s obvious early on in Planet 51 that those involved in creating the film have a great love of classic eighties sci-fi films. Within the first thirty minutes I lost count of how many times Back to the Future, Alien(s), and E.T. were referenced. The story is pretty basic, nothing...

On a scale from one to ten, the intensity with which I didn’t want to see this movie was a sturdy 9. I’m not interested in football movies, I’m not a fan of movies that intend on pulling your heart strings the whole time and I was pretty sure that this was going to blend the two into one, but I walked away from this movie very pleased with what I saw. This movie really surprised me, it wasn’t all about football and it wasn’t constantly trying to make you reach for Kleenex and Zoloft.
The story is...

Dennis revels to the gang his own personal Tao of Steve: The titular Dennis Reynolds’ method (named, with characteristic narcissism, The D.E.N.N.I.S. System) of picking up and brushing off girls:
D – Demonstrate your value
E – Engage physically
N – Nurturing dependence
N - Neglect emotionally
I – Inspire hope
S – Separate entirely
His current victim is a comely young pharmacist (played by real-life Dennis’ real-life wife Jill Latiano) who too late realizes...

I may be in the minority, but I’m not a big fan of Cringe. Now Cringe humor I enjoy, but Cringe humor makes a joke out of an awkward situation whereas straight Cringe just makes you uncomfortable or, even worse, bored. And more often than not, The Office goes for straight Cringe. To be fair, sometimes they do make a joke—the scene in A Benihana Christmas where Michael surreptitiously tags his date with a permanent marker had me both squirming and laughing pretty...

Here is my first Lost in Previews Round Up! In this edition are the trailers for Extraordinary Measures, Crazy Heart, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Salt, and Kick-Ass.
I’ll start with one I just saw today and loved. I actually shed a tear during the trailer. It is Extraordinary Measures starring Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser, and Keri Russell. It is a movie that is similar in feel to Lorenzo’s Oil and inspired by a true story. Harrison Ford has second billing which according to IMDB hasn’t...

I notice the run time on this episode is a slightly longer 30-some minutes instead of the usual 25-plus. Delightfully, I can’t think of any one of those 60 seconds that’s squandered in the season’s best episode so far.
I got a little annoyed last week with the episode’s a bit-too-heavy emphasis on Larry and too little inclusion of Curb’s other characters. Well, this week we not only get some wonderful moments from Marty Funkhauser, not only the Seinfeld reunion...

Note–this is a review of the straight-to-DVD movie that came out on Tuesday, November 17.
It’s Christmas in Philly, and to the Paddy’s Pub gang, that means it’s time to break out the holiday traditions, which is to say, relive the traumas of Christmases past and revisit some others that only become traumatic in retrospect.
While Mac and Charlie eagerly await passing out from eggnog, decorating the bar at the last minute (now with their recently purchased snowblower),...

After a long, slow season, these final episodes of Dexter are reminding us all why we love this show. Things are moving along well, the side plots are exciting and interesting and Batista and LaGuerta are broken up! Let’s hope things stay as great as they are now, or else this could be a pretty weak season.
So, Dexter has broken the one big rule from Harry: don’t kill innocent people. Personally, I think that the guy had it coming, but I guess Dex is really getting eaten up by this. Don’t worry, though, because...

The Young Victoria is a film about Queen Victoria of England, her rise to the throne and her enduring relationship with her husband, Prince Albert. Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) and Rupert Friend (Pride and Prejudice) play the two main characters. The movie also has an excellent supporting cast: Paul Bettany (I did not even recognize him in the film until recently), Miranda Richardson, Harriet Walker, and Jim Broadbent. Sarah Ferguson and Martin Scorcese are among the producers.
I have been excited about this movie...

We’ve all heard the hype about the new, FPS/RPG Borderlands. After seeing the graphic and hilarious trailer, I was pretty pumped up for this title. With a supposed 3.5 million guns to be found and laughs to be had, the game is promising a lot. Let’s find out if this funky fresh game lives up to the surrounding news.
The story is fairly simple. I mean, it’s really simple. It takes place on the planet Pandora and your main goal is to find this legendary treasure, called The Vault. Like in Fallout 3, Borderlands...
