So if you have been following Lost In Reviews for a while, you will know that we like to give out our own form of an Oscar to deserving talent. We call this award, “The Bateman”, from Christian Bale’s fantastic performance as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. We have carefully scoured the films that have come out all year and whittled it down to the top ten best films overall from ten to one. Although, we always have to throw a bone to a few more with an Honorable Mention.
It’s hard to believe that...

Over all the holiday festivities, the Blu-rays were just piling up on us. So, we call this week’s Blu Monday the Gift Card Edition because we know everyone is now sitting on a few gift cards and you might not know what to put that card toward. Here is a list of movies that you should either steer clear of, or go running toward. What we cover this week: The A-Team, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Futurama Volume 5, Step Up 3, Cyrus, Resident Evil: Afterlife and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
The A-Team on Blu-ray
The...

As the head trailer honcho here at Lost in Reviews, I thought I would take a stab at doing a top ten post for the best movie trailers of 2010. These are my top ten, not the Lost in Reviews team as a collective. These are presented in no particular order, and I reserve the right to change the list if there are any stellar trailers that come out by January 1st. I had a little trouble deciding, so there is a top ten and seven honorable mentions.
The Top Ten
1. Legend of the Guardians – This trailer has the combination...

Horror meets The South meets the Church. That’s how I would describe Kevin Smith’s new movie, Red State. Yes, Kevin Smith, who also wrote the screenplay. This is no comedy. I really like the trailer for the simplicity yet it gives you a lot of images from the movie. The film stars John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, Stephen Root, Nicholas Braun, Kevin Pollak, and Anna Gunn. Are rat tails making a comeback?
So far, Red State has no official release date, but it will premiere at the...

A Contract With God
Writer and Illustrator: Will Eisner
Published by: W W Norton and Company
Did you know you can tell stories in comics other than opening cans of hyper-powered whoop-ass and blowing up things real good? Really. I love the costumed crime fighter myth but recently it was brought to my attention that people enjoy graphic stories with a more tangible human struggle in its pages. American Splendor was mentioned by an erudite clever young man and I agreed.
Next day people I’m among the shelves and find A Contract...

I was so pissed last year when Colin Firth was snubbed for his much deserved Best Actor award for A Single Man. The award, instead, went to Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart. Apparently, the Academy thought it was his “comeback” role. In other words, he’s never going to do a role more worthy than this. It’s not like we would award him for playing The Dude again. Little do they know, just watch this year’s True Grit, starring Bridges. Colin Firth was absolutely perfect in A Single Man, but I digress, he...

The Lincoln Lawyer is a film about a well-known lawyer that takes on a case that turns out to be more complex than it first seems. The movie reminds me of a really great Law and Order episode and Primal Fear combined. Matthew McConaughey plays the title character and Ryan Phillippe plays the accused man. The film is based on the book by Michael Connelly. Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy, Josh Lucas, Laurence Mason, Frances Fisher, John Leguizamo, Michael Pena, Margarita Levieva, Bob Gunton, Reggie Baker, Mackenzie Aladjem,...

Hanna is a definite departure from director Joe Wright’s three previous films, The Soloist, Pride and Prejudice, and Atonement. It stars one of the young actresses from Atonement, Saoirse Ronan, as a daughter of an ex-CIA man who has been basically trained in every one of the man’s skills while out in the wilderness. She is then brought into the real world fighting criminals in what looks like a mission to find her father or given to her by her father. Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Olivia Williams, and Tom Hollander...

Here is a kooky comedy for you. Cedar Rapids follows not the brightest bulb in the box insurance agent to an insurance convention. Wacky encounters, sex, and beat downs follow. This comedy stars Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Stephen Root, Kurtwood Smith, Alia Shawkat, Mike O’Malley, Rob Corddry, and Seth Morris. I think it is safe to say that The Office fans will enjoy this one. Official Synopsis:
To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), “naive” is a gross understatement....

I’ve never been a fan of westerns, so the “remake of one of the best movies ever” thing was a bit lost on me. For me the draw of True Grit has nothing to do with The Duke and everything to do with The Dude.
I’ve always been a fan of the Coens, subtract The Lady Killers and Intolerable Cruelty and I can safely say I enjoy every movie they have ever made. Yes, there are a few that I hold near and dear to my heart, one of those films I hold incredibly close, is The Big Lebowski. While everyone screamed praises...

Ok, so if you have seen Meet the Parents and/or Meet the Fockers, you already have a pretty good idea what you are in for when you sit down for Little Fockers. We’ve met the parents, the couple is married and happily living in a nice place and now, and they have two little “twins” to celebrate a birthday for. I say “twins” in quotes because the boy and girl looked to be about two or three years apart. They try to cover this up in the film by claiming that Samantha (Daisy Tahan) has hit a growth spurt...

The much anticipated TRON sequel, TRON: Legacy is finally upon us. Will it live up to the hype, or even the joy the original brought to nerds in 1982? Watch our video review for all the details.
TRON brought back Kevin Flynn and Allen Bradley from the original TRON, which was fun to see them all grown up, twenty seven years later. The story centers around Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) doing his best to wreak havoc on his father’s company, now in the hands of some evil guy. He follows a page from his Dad...

Take a second for me and think back on the highlight reel of your life. Picture all of your finest moments. Grasp with a white knuckle grip the way those victories filled your stomach with butterflies of self confidence. Now, shift that perception towards the way it felt when those moments were snatched away. Maybe it was a divorce from your high school sweetheart or a career ending baseball injury, but the odds are pretty good that something in your lifetime ended short of where you intended. Essentially, it is that gut wrenching...

This is the trailer for the film adaptation of Sara Gruen’s popular novel Water for Elephants. This film and the trailer has been long awaited by fans of the book which spent two years on the bestseller list. I personally have not read the book yet. I have issues with circuses and the use of performing animals. I was concerned when news of the movie first came about because of the use of performing animals. It is hard to say if these animals lead a good life. I am sure people could argue the same for zoos (I...
