I don’t know what the hell is going on with The Event. In the first five minutes, I rewound it four times because I thought I had missed some crucial piece of the story. Turns out I didn’t miss anything except a chance to be even more confused. Luckily for me the “What the hell?!?!?” feeling never left so I neither gained or lost anything.
I know it is gonna seem strange, but I could not get rid of the feeling that I had seen the “Girlfriend missing from the room” story before. If it turns out that I have seen it before I am going to be so peeved off. It must really suck being a television show that debuts after the likes of Twin Peaks, Lost, or 24. Now not only do you have to be able to grab on to the viewers in the first handful of episodes you also have to convince them that even though you hope to be on the air five years from now, you still know exactly what is going to happen. Talk about pressure.
Yeah The Event confused the hell out me. I didn’t know what was going on, why it was happening, or who it was happening too. I have no clue who are the good guys or the bad guys. Do I think the “event” was the plane disappearing into thin air? No. Now obviously it has something to do with it, but it was way to small of an “event” to be the big one. Now the question becomes do I care that I have to actually watch another episode to find out what happened (read with sarcasm)? No.
Is The Event the next Lost or Flashforward? Who the hell knows and you know something I am not going to waste my time worrying about it. I do believe that if everyone settles down and allows the chips to fall where they may NBC may just have a good little adventure drama on their hands.
In other words my final rating is:
Time to start keeping up with this could be classic. If you don’t you’ll have no clue what all the cool kids are taking about.
Until next time,
