Lost in the Web: Mortal Kombat Legacy

What started out as Kevin Tancharoen’s way to show Warner Bros how the series could be successfully re-imagined with the short video titled Mortal Kombat Rebirth, which eventually segued into the 9 webisode series Mortal Kombat Legacy.   Legacy stars Michael Jai White as Jackson Briggs, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, and Darren Shahlavi as Kano.  Since the first episode premiered on Machinima’s YouTube Channel it has received over 5 million views.  After the successful launch of the first webisode there is already talk of a second season with an appearance from Liu Kang and Kung Lao.  If Warner Bros had any question as to whether or not fans were still interested I think they found their answer.

All remnants of the big screen movies are swept swiftly and justly away giving the go ahead for what, in this critic’s opinion, could possibly be an opening or at the very least a how to do a new movie right guidebook.  In less than 13 minutes director Kevin Tancharoen takes the world of Mortal Kombat we know from the films and removes any aftertaste they may have left.   This is a Mortal Kombat for a new generation.

Until next time,
