Here is another retelling of a classic fairy tale. Jack the Giant Killer is another version of Jack and the Beanstalk, the story we all heard at least once when we were kids. There does not seem to be any golden geese and eggs in this film, but the beanstalk and giant are there, as well as the magic beans. The film stars Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson, Eddie Marsan, and Ewan McGregor. X-Men director Bryan Singer directed.
Has the film industry tapped into live-action versions of classic fairy tales as a new source of material? There are two Snow White films coming out in the first half of 2012. Snow White and the Huntsman comes out just two weeks before Jack the Giant Killer is out. Both films have Ian McShane and Eddie Marsan in them as well.
“”Jack the Giant Killer” tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittinglyopens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.”
Jack the Giant Killer is in theatres June 15, 2012.
