Lost in Previews: The Iron Lady

The Iron Lady is based on the life of former English Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.  It seems that the film is focusing mostly on her life in government, but the full trailer does show part of her early life.  I certainly remember Margaret Thatcher since she was on the news a lot when I was growing up.  She broke through a huge glass ceiling in the United Kingdom.  She was the first woman to become Prime Minister, and no woman since has reached that position.  Meryl Streep plays Margaret Thatcher, and she certainly lost herself in the role, and has earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress earlier this week.  Are the Oscars next?  The film also stars Jim Broadbent and Richard E. Grant.

“THE IRON LADY is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep), the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.”

The Iron Lady opens in NY and LA in December 2011, and spreads nationally January 13, 2012.
