Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is based on the book of the same name by Seth Grahame-King. It is one of those odd, reimagined stories that is in the same category as Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies (which has stalled in pre-production for its film adaptation). Grahame-King wrote the screenplay along with Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, Mr. & Mrs. Smith). The film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov who also directed Wanted. Benjamin Walker plays Abraham Lincoln. Benjamin is a relative newcomer who recently won acclaim playing another president, Andrew Jackson, in the play, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, both on and off Broadway. Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell, and Marton Csokas join Benjamin in the cast.
The trailer is pretty damn good. I love how it starts with candlelight flickering on the 20th Century Fox name. I would like to see it better in a high quality version of the trailer. Some of the scenes look too grainy and fake. I hope they did not go overboard with the CGI on this. While the film does include the trendy vampires, the film looks to be an original story which is something I have been craving for.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is in theatres June 22, 2012.
