MTV recently announced that they would be returning to SXSW for their now annual awards show the “MTVu Woodie Awards”, now we get news of who will be playing down in Austin on March 15th. Chiddy Bang, Gary Clark Jr., Kimbra, and Ed Sheeran get added to the list of artists that include “.fun.” Check out the press release below and let us know what you think for this year’s “Woodie Awards”.

New York, NY – February 22, 2011 – MTV’s 24-hour college network, mtvU, today announced that Chiddy Bang, Gary Clark, Jr., Kimbra, and Ed Sheeran will join previous announced performers fun., A$AP Rocky, WALK THE MOON and Wallpaper. on stage at the 2012 mtvU “Woodie Awards Festival” on March 15 during the SXSW Music Festival. The day will begin at 1pm CT with a host of live performances by up-and-coming artists during the first-ever, open-air “Woodie Awards Festival.” Open to all SXSW badge holders and free to music fans, the performances will lead up to the “2012 mtvU Woodie Awards,” which will take-over the Festival at 8pm CT on March 15, 2012. Additional performers for the Festival and Award show will be announced at a later late.
After snagging the “Best Video Woodie” in 2011, alternative hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang is back on the Woodies scene this year. Rapper Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege broke the Guinness World Records title for “Longest Rap Freestyle” at MTV’s 2011 “O Music Awards,” and he and Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Beresin just released their anticipated debut album Breakfast with the single “Ray Charles” a week early on iTunes. From performing at the White House: Red, White and Blues event to sharing the stage with Alicia Keys at The Annual Black Ball, Austin-native and musical powerhouse Gary Clark Jr. will rock the Festival with his epic soulful psychedelic electric-guitar sound. Winner of the 2011 Aria for Best Female and currently making waves on Gotye’s “Somebody That I used To Know,” New Zealand by-way-of Australian songstressKimbra will showcase her quirky, jazz-influenced brand of pop at the first-ever “Woodies Festival.” Recently winning a pair of Brit Awards, UK sensation Ed Sheeran will also bring his unique acoustic/hip-hop sound to the Festival just before he sets off on his first-ever North-American tour with Snow Patrol and releases his chart-topping, platinum-selling full length debut in the U.S. this summer. Previously announced performers include 2012 “Breaking Woodie” nominees and MTV Artists to Watch fun., A$AP Rocky, WALK THE MOON and Wallpaper..

Beginning March 11, 2012, “Woodie Awards Week” will take over MTV, mtvU and MTV.com with interviews, performances and updates from the SXSW Music Festival. Fans outside of Austin can catch the killer performances and backstage mayhem live, soon after doors open at Noon CT on March 15, 2012 at http://www.Woodies.mtvU.com. On Sunday, March 18, 2012, mtvU will bring the best moments from the show to MTV and mtvU in the half-hour “2012 mtvU Woodie Awards Special.” The hosted special will showcase some of the best “Woodie Awards” performances and celebrate the artists who are walking away with chunks of wood this year. Additionally, the biggest celebrities, comedians and artists will join the special to give a nod to their favorite artists.
Woodie Award voting runs through March 9, 2012, except for the “Breaking Woodie” category, which will continue during the live show on March 15, 2012.
