SXSW 2012 Spotlight: Bear In Heaven

Well it’s about damn time. If you don’t know by now, I love Bear in Heaven immensely. I’ve listened to their sophomore album, Beast Rest Forth Mouth  so much that Jon Philpot’s voice travels through my head at night. I’m totally okay with this. The band is set to release their third album I Love You, It’s Cool  on April 3rd and they are now premiering the video for “The Reflection of You” on Noisey’s YouTube channel.

The video should probably come with a warning that the insane amount of cool it’s projecting might just send you into a seizure. The guys are definitely attempting to break out of the shoe-gazing status that previous albums and live shows have given them. This video just might do the trick with fast camera work, bright lights and a strange hairy man dancing fervently to the song towards the end. One thing’s for sure: Jon shaving off that handlebar mustache has returned about fifteen years to his face.

They will also be playing many shows at SXSW this year. You can bet your last dollar you will see me at a few of these shows, and you should attend as well. You can add them to your SXSW schedule here.  Check out the video for “The Reflection of You” below.

The video was directed by infamous production company / art collective, PFFR, who are best known as the creators of Wonder Showzen, Xavier : Renegade Angel, and The Heart She Holler (Bear In Heaven’s own Jon Philpot edited all 3 of these shows).  Look out for a cameo by Michael Mahalchick, New York based artist, actor, and good vibe generator.

In other exciting news, Bear In Heaven is gearing up for their first live performances in almost a year, heading out on the road this spring for a full US tour in support of their forthcoming record, I LOVE YOU, IT’S COOL. The band is taking their dynamic live show to audiences around the country joined by BLOUSE, Doldrums and Young Magic.

Bear In Heaven will be headed to Austin for a packed week of shows at SXSW  - confirmed appearances include the official Dead Oceans / Secretly Canadian SXSW Showcase, Hometapes’ Friend Island Party, the Urban Outfitters and Tumblr parties and more to be announced shortly.
