Official Record Store Day Release List Announced

Record Store Day! It’s Christmas for us music nerds! In case you didn’t know, Record Store Day celebrates locally owned indie record stores, and uses exclusive vinyl releases available on that one day, in order to help drive sales and promote those indie music shops. It’s tons of fun, and usually there are quite a few really great releases. This year is no different! With exclusive releases from The Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, M83, Sigur Ros, and even a joint Mastodon/Feist split 7″, this year’s Record Store Day looks to be one for the books!

So now without further introduction, I present to you… THE LIST!

*There are three categories on this list. These are them:
RECORD STORE DAY EXCLUSIVE RELEASES. Exclusively available on Record Store Day at Record Store Day participating stores. Will not be available anywhere else in the same format.
RECORD STORE DAY LIMITED RUN/REGIONAL FOCUS RELEASES. Also exclusively available on Record Store Day at Record Store Day participating stores, but the quantities of these titles are EXTREMELY limited. Under 1000, and WAY under 1000 in some cases. We felt it was only right to put them on a special sub-list, so that everyone is clear on the odds.
‘RECORD STORE DAY FIRST’ RELEASE.  These are titles that you can find on Record Store Day at Record Store Day participating stores. So if you’re a fan of the artist, you get first listen. At some point in the future, generally four to six weeks, these titles will be available, in the same format, at other retailers.

So here are the facts:

When: April 21, 2012

Where: Your Local Record Store! Need help finding one? Here you go!

Tips: You usually might want to get to the shops fairly early as you won’t be the only one wanting that exclusive slab of vinyl! Which also means, if the store you go to doesn’t have what you want, don’t be bummed! Head to another store! Releases are very limited, and tons of us hipsters gotta catch ’em all! You might also call ahead to whatever stores you plan on going to, to see which releases each store will have on hand. And finally, and most importantly, just shop around, and enjoy being in these cool indie shops! Even if you don’t buy any exclusive releases, doesn’t hurt to still pick up some non exclusive stuff!

Do you plan on participating? Which releases catch your eye? Let us know in the comments below!
