Lost in Previews: Hysteria

I think most of us have heard by now about the film about the invention of the vibrator.  That film is called Hysteria (aptly titled) and it is indeed about the vibrator.  It is actually a period piece set in the late 1800’s. The term “hysteria” is a term that was used to diagnose women back in the day.  Apparently, all they needed was a “release” of some sort.  I love Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character in the film.  She has a lot of rebellion and spunk for this period of time.   The film also stars Hugh Dancy, Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett, and Felicity Jones.  I am very much looking forward to seeing this in the theatres.

“HYSTERIA, a mischievously inspired romantic comedy set in the late 19th century, is based on the surprising truth of how Mortimer Granville came up with the world’s first electromechanical vibrator in the name of medical science. The film stars Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy, alongside Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones.”

Hysteria is in theatres May 18, 2012.
