I feel like it was just recently that I heard that Open Road Films was announcing this film, and now there is already a trailer. End of Watch is a documentary style film following two cops on their beat in LA. The cameras also follow them into their personal lives. The film obviously spans at least a couple of years just based on the events shown in the trailer. Trouble hits the cops when they get mixed up with the Mexican Cartel, taking down a few of their members. The Cartel is now after them. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena play the two cops. The rest of the cast includes Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, America Ferrera, Cody Horn, Frank Grillo, and David Harbour. David Ayer wrote and directed the film. I like the way the film is shot, but hopefully there will not be too much of the shaky cam.
“A powerful story of family, friendship, love, honor and courage, End Of Watch stars Academy Award® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as young police officers Taylor and Zavala as they patrol the city’s meanest streets of south central Los Angeles.
Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city’s most dangerous corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.”
End of Watch is in theatres September 28, 2012.
