Flight is the new film by director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Cast Away). It is a welcome return to live-action films for Zemeckis. His last three films have all been animated (A Christmas Carol, Beowulf, The Polar Express). His last live-action film was Cast Away in 2000. Flight deals with a pilot who very bravely manages to save the passengers on his flight from certain death in a crash. This sounds very much like the true story of the 2009 plane crash on the Hudson River in NYC piloted by Capt. Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger. The similarities end there as the pilot (played by Denzel Washington) is called into question as he is found to have a high blood alcohol content. The film also stars John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Melissa Leo, James Badge Dale, Kelly Reilly, Bruce Greenwood, Rhoda Griffis, Tamara Tunie, Nadine Velazquez, Garcelle Beauvais, and Brian Geraghty.
“In this action-packed mystery thriller, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a seasoned airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe, saving nearly every soul on board. After the crash, Whip is hailed as a hero, but as more is learned, more questions than answers arise as to who or what was really at fault, and what really happened on that plane?”
Flight is in theatres November 2, 2012.
