The Perks of Being a Wallflower appears to have a pretty big fan following. The young adult book is written by Stephen Chbosky and speaks to those who are having a hard time fitting in in high school. Stephen Chbosky not only wrote the novel, but he also wrote the screenplay and directed the film. I think that is rare, no? The film stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller (the psycho kid from We Need to Talk About Kevin), Mae Whitman, Kate Walsh, Dylan McDermott, Nina Dobrev, Paul Rudd, Melanie Lynskey, and Johnny Simmons. This is Emma Watson’s first big role post-Harry Potter. She was in My Week with Marilyn but it was a pretty small role.
From the trailer, I think the film looks to be both entertaining and appears to be sending a good message. It is an excellent trailer. Favorite part, hands down, is “BE AGRESSIVE! PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE!” The song used in the trailer is “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons. Congrats to this little known band. They have had a song used in a trailer twice (The Words) in a matter of weeks.
“A funny and touching coming-of-age story based on the beloved best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER is a modern classic that captures the dizzying highs and crushing lows of growing up. Starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER is a moving tale of love, loss, fear and hope—and the unforgettable friends that help us through life.”
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is in theatres September 14, 2012.
