As I continue in my excitement and anticipation for Anna Karenina, director Joe Wright and the cast explain what to expect from this adaptation. As I thought from the trailer, it is indeed taking place on a stage. It is a new concept for a period drama, especially one that is based on a classic novel. The featurette also shows that the story does leave the stage at certain points. I find those glimpses to be particularly stunning as the departure from the stage is so dramatic. Joe Wright is taking a risk with this interpretation of the novel, and, so far, it is looking to be a great film.
The cast of Anna Karenina includes Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Ruth Wilson.
Anna Karenina is in theatres November 9, 2012.
