The very long, almost six minutes, international trailer for Cloud Atlas came online today. While the quality is not HD, it gives you a look at what this film is all about . . . if you can figure it out. There are many actors and thus many characters in this film. It seems to span many points in time. The only thing that I can compare it to is Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, as at least two of the characters (played by Tom Hanks and Halle Berry) seem to find each other throughout different times. The film is based on the novel of the same name by David Mitchell. If you have read the novel, feel free to chime in on what the heck is going on here.
The film is written and directed by Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, and Andy Wachowski. The Wachowskis are the same pair responsible for The Matrix Trilogy. The film stars many actors including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant.
““Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.”
Cloud Atlas is in theatres October 26, 2012.
