Lost in Previews: Stoker

Stoker is a thriller/horror/drama from the same director of Oldboy.  From the beginning of the trailer, it is obvious that Nicole Kidman plays an evil, loveless mother.  Mia Wasikowska plays the daughter who is a little odd, and the dark wig rightly makes her look a little darker than if she was sporting her blonde hair.  Matthew Goode plays the uncle who takes an unnatural liking to the daughter.  This all makes for a strange film, but it is shot in an unconventional way that makes it beautiful.

Stoker also stars Dermot Mulroney, Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till, and Alden Ehrenreich.  Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) directed the film, and, oddly enough, Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) wrote the screenplay under a pen name of Ted Foulke with the contributing help of Erin Cressida Wilson.

“After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.”

Stoker is in theatres March 1, 2013.
