Lost in Previews: Beautiful Creatures

Beautiful Creatures is a film based on the first novel in a series written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.  I have yet to read it, but I may have to pick it up based on this trailer.  It is a supernatural film that is set in the South.  It has an impressive cast that makes me think this is not some young adult drivel that doesn’t do much but appease the readers.  I like the music used in the latter part of the trailer, but have no clue what it is.  Two of the main characters have actors that I have never seen before, so they must have something going for them in the acting department.  The cast includes Alden Ehrenreich, Alice Englert, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum, and Emma Thompson.  Richard LaGravenese wrote the screenplay and directed the film.

If this film does well, I assume we can expect the next novel in the series to be made.

“A supernatural love story set in the South, “Beautiful Creatures” tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town. Oscar(R) nominee Richard LaGravenese (“The Fisher King,””P.S. I Love You”) directs from his adaptation of the first novel in the best-selling series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich (“Tetro”), newcomer Alice Englert, Academy Award(R) winner Jeremy Irons (“Reversal of Fortune”) Oscar(R) nominee Viola Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”), Emmy Rossum (TV’s “Shameless”) and Academy Award(R) winner Emma Thompson (“Howard’s End,” “Sense and Sensibility”).”

Beautiful Creatures is in theatres February 13, 2013.  Just in time for Valentine’s Day.
