I am a few weeks behind in all of the news on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones news. This series was not even on my radar until I finished reading the five available books in the young adults series a couple weeks ago. I had heard about these books, but it took one of my friends buying me the first book for me to become immersed in this world. I also did not want to know who was cast as who until I finished my version of the story in my head. This series does have the potential to take over the Twilight obsession after that whole phenom concludes. All I can say is that I loved the books, and would highly recommend picking up the first book.
That being said, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is currently filming. It is based on the first book in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. So far there are five books, but the last book does not conclude in a way that it is the final book. The world depicted in these books revolves around Shadowhunters, a race of humans who are part angels and whose job is to defend the world from demons. Also in these books are vampires, warlocks, and fairies, each being their own race with their own rules. The main character is Clary Fray who learns after her mom is kidnapped and taken by force that she is also a Shadowhunter. Her mom shielded her from her true self for reasons that become apparent in the books. Clary becomes involved with three Shadowhunters; Jace, Alec, and Isabelle. Clary’s human best friend, Simon, also becomes involved in the Shadowhunter world because of the events that surround Clary.
I could go on and on, but it can be a bit complicated. Just know that this will be a supernatural fantasy film. It does have a bit of romance in it, but it is not the sole focus.
Harald Zwart is directing the film. His previous credits are Pink Panther 2 and The Karate Kid. Consider me officially worried right now.
The official title treatment for the film is above.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is in theatres August 23, 2013.
Lily Collins as Clary Fray – I was not too pleased with this based on her dark hair and dark eyebrows and the fact that Clary is supposed to have red hair. It looks like they have lightened her hair and put some red in it, so I am okay with her (right now).
Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland
Kevin Zegers as Alec Lightwood
Jemima West as Isabelle Lightwood
Robert Sheehan as Simon West
Lena Headey as Jocelyn Fray
Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Valentine Morgenstern
Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane
Kevin Durand as Emil Pangborn
Aidan Turner as Luke Garroway
Jared Harris as Hodge Starkweather
Not all of the cast has been announced yet, but these are most of the main characters. Some other minor characters do have actors attached. Browse the IMDB page for those.
