Screenwriter Announced for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Film Adaptation

I, like many women, have read Fifty Shades of Grey and the two sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.  I pretty much obsessively devoured the books.  They originally started out as Twilight fan fiction.  Author E.L. James has become one of the most popular authors around.  I already knew that there was going to be a film when I started reading the books, and that Focus Features had bought the rights.  After reading the first book, it became quite clear that this film was going to have to have a lot of sex in it, and I think the only way for it to be success is to have it end up being a NC-17 film.

Many fans have followed the developments of the film version of the books.   Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti won the chance to produce the film after quite the competition with many well-known producers putting their names in the ring.

Today, the screenwriter for the Fifty Shades of Grey was announced.  Kelly Marcel has gotten the coveted job and arduous task of translating this sex-filled book into a script.  Kelly Marcel wrote the screenplay for Saving Mr. Banks which is currently in production at Disney and stars Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, and Colin Farrell.  She was also the co-creator and executive producer of Fox’s now defunct Terra Nova.  She is also producing The Madonnas of Echo Park for HBO.

The producers of Fifty Shades of Grey had this to say about Kelly Marcel:

“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks,” said De Luca.  “We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley’s engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family,” added Brunetti.
