Lost in Previews: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Rather than having it premiere tomorrow (Thursday), MTV got the jump on the first trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and released it tonight.  You will be able to see the trailer in the theatre if you go and see Breaking Dawn – Part 2 on Friday.

I was very skeptical about how this film is going turn out.  The director’s CV is not something to boast about, and giving him a large book series with devoted fans was a huge risk.  This trailer (this is definitely not a teaser) is very encouraging and some parts of it look kick a**.  You see a lot of the cast in the trailer.  All but Lena Headley, Godfrey Gao, and Aidan Turner are missing.  The feel of the trailer especially with the music used makes me more excited for this film.  I think those who will see it before Breaking Dawn will be surprised and intrigued.

The cast is made up of Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jared Harris, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Aidan Turner, Lena Headey, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  Harald Zwart directed the film based on the novel by Cassandra Clare.

“Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.”

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is in theatres August 23, 2013.
