Marky Mark . . .err, I mean . . . Mark Wahlberg returns to the nineties and gets pumped up to play the role of trainer, muscle head, and a mediocre kidnapper in Pain and Gain. Wahlberg is joined by the always muscular Dwayne Johnson and the somewhat muscular Anthony Mackie. This film is based on true events, and becomes a comedy of sorts with action and lots of muscles. I think I lost it at seeing Anthony Mackie in that striped purple 90s workout getup. I also highly enjoyed hearing “Kids” by Sleigh Bells at the end of the trailer.
The films also stars Ed Harris, Rob Corddry, Bar Paly, Tony Shalhoub, Rebel Wilson, and Ken Jeong. Michael Bay directed the film with a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
“From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain & Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson and Bar Paly also star. The film is based on magazine articles by Pete Collins, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Donald DeLine, Michael Bay and Ian Bryce.”
Pain and Gain is in theatres April 26, 2013.
