The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a comedy following magicians in Las Vegas. The focus of the film is Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and his best friend Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) as they struggle to keep their popularity and their friendship together. The “nemesis” of the film is Steve Gray (Jim Carrey) who seems to be a combination of David Blaine and Criss Angel. Have to say I laughed at the Alan Arkin bits. He may be the star of this film. That and the great makeup and costumes on these actors.
The film stars Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jim Carrey, Jay Mohr, and Michael Bully Herbig. This is Don Scardino’s film director debut as he is known mostly for directing TV series episodes. Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley wrote the screenplay
“Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other. Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.”
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is in theatres March 15, 2013.
