Lost in Previews: The Place Beyond the Pines

The Place Beyond the Pines StillThe Place Beyond the Pines had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and was picked up by Focus Features shortly after.  Unless you were at the festival, we have only seen some photos of the film and some shots from during filming.  Today, the trailer came online which gives us our first real good look at what the film looks like and the story.  It looks to a pretty fantastic film with some great cinematography just seen in the trailer.  The story looks complex with Ryan Gosling’s character wanting to do right by his son, but going about it in a bad way.  The film also focuses on Bradley Cooper’s cop character, but I have a feeling the stories of the two characters are more interwoven than just a cop trying to find a criminal.  In any case, I am in.

The film stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Rose Byrne, Mahershala Ali, Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen, and Ray Liotta.  Derek Cianfrance, Ben Coccio, and Darius Marder wrote the screenplay and Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) directed the film.

“The highly anticipated new drama from director Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine”) powerfully explores the consequences of motorcycle rider Luke’s (Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling) fateful decision to commit a crime to support his child. The incident renders him targeted by policeman Avery (Golden Globe Award nominee Bradley Cooper), and the two men become locked on a tense collision course which will have a devastating impact on both of their families in the years following.:

The Place Beyond the Pines is in theatres March 29, 2013.
