Lost in Previews SXSW 2013: Mud

Mud PosterMud has already played at the Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals.  Next month, it will be at the SXSW Film Festival.  The film has already garnered some great reviews, even one featured in the trailer saying it is Matthew McConaughey’s best performance.  Considering some thought McConaughey’s performance in last year’s Killer Joe to be his best, I guess you will have to see for yourself.  Not knowing much about the film, I thought this was possibly a light-hearted film.  Nope.  This has some dark elements and borders on a thriller just based on the trailer.

Mud stars Matthew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Sam Shepard (with an awesome haircut), Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Paulson, Michael Shannon, Ray McKinnon, and Paul Sparks.

“MUD is an adventure about two boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and his friend Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), who find a man named Mud (Matthew McConnaughey) hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Mud describes fantastic scenarios—he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon), who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn’t long until Mud’s visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow.”

Mud plays at the SXSW Film Festival March 8 – 16, 2013 and is in theatres April 26, 2013.
