Don Jon, formerly called Don Jon’s Addiction, is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut. He also wrote the script. The film has played at a couple of film festivals including SXSW. Joseph Gordon-Levitt also plays the main character who is a little obsessed with porn, along with only a few other things in his life. Into his life walks Barbara played by Scarlett Johansson who is a little obsessed with the romantic films leading her to want a prince charming. They play people either from New York or Jersey with that very recognizable accent. Scarlett does it very well. The trailer itself does a great job of presenting the main character and what he is all about, which is not much. The trailer gives quite a few laughs with the best scene having to be at the end with Jon singing along to “Good Vibrations” by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
The film also stars Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Glenne Headly, and Brie Larson and some cameos by Channing Tatum and Anne Hathaway.
“Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.”
Don Jon is in theatres October 18, 2013.
