People of Fort Worth! If you are looking for a band to catch around here, I have the perfect recommendation for you, Pistol Packin’ Mama. This group of guys blend a hot mix of blues, country, rock, and more that make for a toe-tapping show that will leave you wanting more.
Formed in 2010, this band consists of Justin McElveen on vocals and guitar, Justin Odean on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jon Gerner plays drums, Paul Lipinski provides bass guitar, and Matthew Turcotte on percussion and harmonica. I was able to catch them the other night for a set at the Grotto and it was a blast. These guys are pretty laid back, but their music is anything but. Lead vocals from Justin McElveen are strong and dark. With original songs like the “Tractor Song”, “Deadwood Jimmy”, and “3 Night Stand” you get a great bit of guitar work from both Justins. They do some fabulous instrumental work and covers like “Crossroads” and “On the Road Again” with a PPM touch to them. Turcotte is insane on the drums. You can’t even follow his hands they fly so fast, but that isn’t all because he is a double threat with blazing harmonica as well.
These guys were kind enough to give me a sneak peek of the CD they are currently working on and even though it only has two tracks, it has been my work commute soundtrack all week. I am looking forward to catching them again around town, and I suggest you do too.
Their upcoming gigs include the Pour House on the 12th, The Basement Bar on the 20th, and Lola’s on the 24th. Make sure to go up and say hi. They are a sincerely friendly group of guys who take support from fans very seriously, and that is just another reason to check them out!
