Pixar’s Monsters University is dominating the the box office this weekend with more than $139M overall since it premiered; while the recently released White House Down is poised to have a a very weak opening weekend.  As of this writing the action-thriller starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx has earned an estimated $9M in domestic ticket sales.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has  276 new members, including Jason Bateman, Sandra Oh, Catherine Hardwicke, and Lena Dunham.  This is a significant jump from 2012 when only 176 in the entertainment industry were invited to join.

Whoever had money on the next remake coming down the pike being the 1990 thriller starring Tim Robbins Jacob’s Ladder this week was your week.  Jeff Buhler is writing the script and the film is being produced by Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig.

The young adult novel market is taking over the movie industry, or at least it feels that way.  Especially with the news this week that Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to filmmaker/novelist Chris Weitz soon to be published The Young World.  The first in a 3 novel series The Young World is about a group of teenage survivors on earth that has been virtually destroyed.  Weitz may be best known for directing New Moon, the 2nd installment in The Twilight Saga.

Rosemarie DeWitt has joined the cast of Kill the Messenger alongside Jeremy Renner.  Although there is no word on who DeWitt will be playing at this time Renner will be playing the title role of Gary Webb.  Kill the Messenger is the story of the aftermath Webb endured once he linked the CIA with a plan to arm rebels and import cocaine in to the country.

Warner Bros. has released the 2nd official trailer for the emotional crime thriller Prisoners starring Hugh Jackman, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, and Paul Dano.  Slated to be released on September 20, 2013 the trailer shows waste no time in getting to the heart of the movie leaving the viewer wanting to find out the outcome.
