I learned about the history of Pompeii in elementary school. A volcano erupted covering the Roman town in ash and voids in the ash were actually where bodies once laid. Those voids were filled with plaster, and that is what you see if you visit the excavated town today. Hollywood has decided to take a look at this history and make it look like a combination of epic and disaster film.
Pompeii stars Kit Harington, Emily Browning, Carrie-Ann Moss, Paz Vega, Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) directed the film from a screenplay by Janet Scott Batchler (Batman Forever), Lee Batchler (Batman Forever), Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes) and Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey). That is quite a mix of talent both in front and behind the camera.
I think the most impressive thing from the trailer is Kit Harington’s abs.
“Set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, a slave on a ship heading for Naples works to get home to save the woman he loves and his best friend, a gladiator trapped inside the city’s coliseum.”
Pompeii is in theatres February 21, 2014.
