Lost in Previews: Vampire Academy

Vampire Academy

Look, I really love the Vampire Academy books by Richelle Mead. The main character is this kick-ass vampire protector.  I have not finished the series yet, but the first film just finished production.  This is the first trailer.  Other than the Weinstein Company and ending Vampire Academy graphic, it feels kind of blah to me.  There is no inkling about what the story is about and how these vampires and their protectors are different.  For those who know nothing about the book, it just comes off as another vampire movie, which is everyone is probably tired of seeing.  The trailer could have done a lot more to pique everyone’s interest about how this differs from typical vampire lore, but they lost that opportunity.  Basically, this first trailer was just made for the fans, and that’s about it.

Vampire Academy stars Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry, Danila Kozlovsky, Olga Kurylenko, Sami Gayle, Cameron Monaghan, Ashley Charles, Claire Foy, Sarah Hyland, Gabriel Byrne, Joely Richardson, and Dominic Sherwood.  Daniel Waters wrote the screenplay and Mark Waters directed the film.

“Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir: half human/vampire, guardians of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discretely within our world. Her legacy is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi. This is her story.”

Vampire Academy is in theatres February 14, 2013.
