Tamara Drewe is a little English comedy about a girl who returns to her English countryside home much changed physically from her younger self. She stirs up the town with her return. I really like Gemma Arterton, and it is nice to see her not in a big budget movie like Clash of the Titans or The Prince of Persia. The movie also stars an emo Dominic Cooper, Luke Evans, and some other English actors that might be recognizable to you. Well-known Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity) directs Tamara Drewe. Here is the...

The Romantics is a movie based on the novel of the same name by Galt Niederhoffer, who is actually produced and directed the movie also. It has a very indie feel, so I don’t know if this will have a wide release or be one of the those movies that just goes to select theatres. The movie stars Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Candice Bergen, Adam Brody, Elijah Wood, Diana Agron, and Jeremy Strong. The synopsis:
Over the course of one raucous night at a seaside wedding seven close friends, all...

Barry Munday is a quirky comedy about a ladies man who loses his balls (yes, seriously) and then finds out he has fathered a child. The movie has a pretty stellar cast with Patrick Wilson, Judy Greer, Missi Pyle, Mae Whitman, Malcolm McDowell, Chloe Sevigny, Colin Hanks, Cybill Shepherd, Christopher McDonald, Jean Smart, and Billy Dee Williams.
Lost in Reviews was able to screen Barry Munday at the 2010 SXSW festival. Check out our review here.
Barry Munday is in theatres October 1, 2010.

127 Hours is a movie that I just recently heard about and now the trailer has popped up. 127 Hours follows the real-life ordeal of Aron Ralston who fell on a hiking trip and got his armed pinned between a boulder and a rock wall. He had to cut off his own arm to survive. Danny Boyle is the director and co-wrote the screenplay. James Franco plays Aron, and Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn co-star. I don’t like the beginning of the trailer. Danny Boyle is well-known enough now after Slumdog Millionaire that they don’t...

The trailer debuted today for Fair Game which is the movie based on the true events surrounding Valerie Plame and her life as CIA covert agent being exposed by the US government. Naomi Watts plays Valerie Plame and Sean Penn plays her husband Joseph Wilson. The movie also stars Sam Shepard, Bruce McGill, Ty Burrell, Brooke Smith, and Michael Kelly. Synopsis:
As a covert officer in the CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Division, Valerie Plame leads an investigation into the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq....

Here’s a creepy kid thriller/horror for you. Case 39 is a movie that has been around for awhile and is now getting a release in the US. This could be a good or a bad sign. I tend to go toward the latter. The movie stars Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper, Ian McShane, and Jodelle Ferland (seen here much younger than her role as Bree in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse). Synopsis:
In CASE 39, family services social worker Emily Jenkins (Renée Zellweger) thinks she has seen it all… until she meets 10-year old Lilith...

Mr. Nobody is a film that has been around for a while, and has not gotten a US distributor. I have seen this trailer many times, and would really like a chance to actually see it, even if it is only on a DVD. It has an original story and great images. The movie is written and directed by Jaco Van Dormael and stars Jared Leto, Sarah Polley, Diane Kruger, and Rhys Ifans. The premise from a post on IMDB:
Nemo Nobody leads an ordinary existence at his wife’s side, Elise, and their 3 children until the day when reality...

Monsters is going to be prone to comparisons to District 9. It has no well known names starring, a newer director/writer, and looks to be a lower budget movie. Instead of your typical aliens, this movie features life forms from outer space that are more reminiscent of sea monsters (at least the destructive, scary ones). It ran at SXSW earlier this year, and it seems to be finally gaining some strength and appeal after this trailer was released.
Monsters is in a limited release in the US on October 29, 2010.

My Soul to Take is written and directed by Wes Craven and is definitely in the same genre and targets the same audience as A Nightmare on Elm Street. Horror/Slasher film is what this movie is and it looks to be a good one for fans of that genre. A lot of teens and a lot of blood seem to be the norm for Wes Craven. This movie stars a bevy of teen newcomers led by Max Thieriot who has some movies under his belt from when he was a kid (Catch That Kid–it all comes back to Kristen Stewart for me).
My Soul to Take is in...

The trailer for Black Swan has appeared today, and I was definitely waiting for it to come out after some stills from the movie were released. Black Swan is a Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream) directed film starring Vincent Cassel, Natalie Portman, and Mila Kunis. It is a ballet- based plot with rivalries, stalking, girl smooching, and a weird element which I am not quite sure about. Wait for the last few seconds of the trailer, and you will know what I mean. Winona Ryder and Barbara Hershey also star.
Black...

How Do You Know has a trailer that is a bit awkward. The movie follows former softball athlete Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) in a love triangle of sorts with her current baseball boyfriend (Owen Wilson) and corporate guy (Paul Rudd). From the trailer, I get the impression that there are three different main characters while the synopsis indicates otherwise. It is a somewhat funny trailer with an unexpected appearance from Jack Nicholson. James L. Brooks (The Simpsons) wrote and directed How Do You Know. The movie also stars...

Love and Other Drugs is a romantic comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. These two guys, of course, fall in love after trying to “keep it simple.” Gyllenhaal plays a drug rep and Hathaway plays a “free spirit” or whatever that means. The trailer is entertaining and mildly amusing. I have to say that the Gyllenhaal is bringing the cuteness in this movie (sorry, I am a girl). Edward Zwick co-wrote the screenplay and directed, which gives me hope that this will be a good movie. Zwick...

The Next Three Days is a murder mystery and prison escape story wrapped into one movie. It stars Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Brian Dennehy, Jonathan Tucker, RZA, and the witch doctor from True Blood (Aisha Hinds). I noticed they used the same background music as the final trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
This is a remake of French movie Pour Elle starring Diane Kruger.
The Next Three Days is in theatres November 19, 2010.

The teaser trailer for Skyline is a really well done movie trailer. Although you don’t get to see any acting, the plot is revealed effectively with some really good effects. Way to go, Dan Rather! The synopsis is pretty succint:
In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.
The movie stars Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, David Zayas,...

I have to say that Piranha 3D may be a fun movie to go and see. It is one of those campy horror films that I used to see on TV on a Sunday afternoon when I was little. Those movies scared the crap out of me, so I never saw any of them. The cover of the VHS at the local video rental shop was enough for me. Obviously, this is about a pack of pirahnas that terrorize a local lake during spring break. Expect lots of blood, corny lines, and bad acting, only in 3D. The movie stars Elizabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames,...
