There are some things that just shouldn’t be messed with. How does the saying go… “If it’s not Baroque, don’t fix it?” We have seen so many remakes of ’80’s movies that are far from necessary. The Karate Kid will join their ranks. It’s a sign of the times when Hollywood can make a longer and higher-budget (but far inferior) version of a successful 1984 film that was endeared by all the youth of the time.
Jaden Smith plays a new and younger version of The Karate...

The A-Team is big dumb fun, as it should be. This is a movie based on an over the top ’80’s TV show. It isn’t high art and it isn’t supposed to be, thankfully the film makers seem to be aware of this and have lots of fun with it. That isn’t to say it is the perfect summer popcorn flick, though in the weak summer of 2010, so far, it’s easily at the top of the heap up to this point in my estimation.
Serving as an origin story The A-Team opens in Mexico as a shadowy figure is pummeled by a couple...

Here are the trailers for upcoming comedies–but are they actually funny? Did they make you laugh?
Grown Ups is a movie about the maturity of a group of friends who were besties in 1978 and grew apart. They come together for the funeral of their basketball coach and decide to take a little vacation and reconnect. Their wives and children join them. It seems like the perfect comedy with all the talent involved–Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya...

Yup, that’s right. By this time next week, Blake and I will have flown over 1300 miles and be spending a week in gamer heaven!
For those of you wondering, “What in the world is E3?” it’s the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It has been the biggest and most anticipated annual video game trade show since it’s start in 1995. PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo go head to head to show off their new and up coming releases of both hardware and software. Many well known game developers go and set...

Have you ever wanted to know what it might have been like to hang out with Jim Morrison? Well now you can rest those weary thoughts and go see Get Him To The Greek instead. The film stars Russell Brand as Aldous Snow, the rock star front man for Infant Sorrow, who you might remember from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Brand is rehashing the rock star to give us a longer look into his life and along the way, Jonah Hill as Aaron Green, will be chauffeuring the wild ride.
Aaron works for Sergio (Puff Daddy) at Pinnacle and comes up...

Splice is one of those movies that everyone should see. Only when it comes time for you to express reasons as to why someone should see this, you are left speechless. One of the basic reasons is trying to avoid spoilers. One of the most exciting things about seeing this film, myself, was because I knew very little about it. I knew it starred Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley and together, they would create another species. After that, it was the mystery that drew me to this story. The second reason would be because the story is so...

There seem to be a ton of documentaries coming out soon ranging from political to social to biographical in subject matter. I rarely go and see a documentary in the theatres, but they are definitely on my Netflix queue when I hear about them or see the trailer. You can learn alot from a documentary depending on the subject matter and they can move people into action for a cause. An Inconvenient Truth anyone? That was a phenomenon that brought global warming statistics to the masses. Hopefully, you will watch each of these...

Interview: Play in new window| Download
Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with the Director of the upcoming film Splice, Vincenzo Natali. It was a fun interview and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did participating in it.
Ryan: I have been looking forward to this movie for a long time, and even after a week it’s still sticking with me. Was that your intention for the film?
Vincenzo Natali: Yeah, I hope this is a movie that gets under your skin. Absolutely I’m very heartened to hear that.
R: I know it’s been...

Shrek has become a massive icon in children’s entertainment, rivaling the most classic of Disney characters. With such a massive following, sequels are bound to occur. Now, I’ll admit, I was a fan of the first, second and third Shrek films because they brought a new twist on the kid’s movie genre. While I was walking into the fourth and supposedly final Shrek, I was a bit worried. I mean, excluding series like Star Wars and Harry Potter, the fourth movie is usually the first step towards a total garbage train...

Wow! They really didn’t leave much room for questioning. Jacob finally dished the goods, more people died and Jack now has magical powers! It’s always been about Jack, and I loved that they announced a candidate now instead of making us wait until the very end. This show is starting to come full circle and make you feel all warm and gooey inside. The episode started with Jack stitching up Kate’s wound, which is coming full circle to the pilot episode in which Kate stitches up Jack after the crash. Locke tells...

The Twilight trio (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner plus Dakota Fanning) were on Oprah on May 13th. I was moving to Dallas, so I did not get a chance to watch it, but three clips from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse were shown on the show. They have popped up on Youtube. The first of the three clips is Edward being very pissed that Jacob kissed Bella. We also get to see some Charlie Swan action. I don’t think I have seen Edward so mad in the other two movies. I like it.
The second clip is not...

These feel good/true story sports films come out more often than not and always have the same sweet-tooth ending. So you must be asking yourself what is the difference between Invictus and every other feel good sports movie out there? The answer is acting and a story that is about more than sports.
Invictus is the story of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) and how he brought his country together. When Mandela became the first black President of South Africa his country had been split into two factions: those who wanted revenge...

When Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator) took on the challenge to retell one of the most widely known stories in a different light, the biggest problem he would face is it’s title. 2010’s Robin Hood has as much blood and gore as it’s predecessors had tights and foxes, but still plays it safe and lacks the story needed to become the great film it could have been.
When we are first introduced to the savior of Nottingham, he is just a mere archer fighting in King Richard I’s crusade, and as far away from Sherwood...

Rated: PG for brief rude behavior, some language, and incidental smoking.
Runtime: 1hr. 44 min.
Letters to Juliet is a sweet film that caters to it’s intended audience better than most. While it’s fairly predictable, the film manages to retain it’s humor and charming atmosphere right up to the lovely ending that will have all the hopeless romantics swooning and applauding.
Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) makes a journey to the beautiful city of Verona, where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet first met. ...

Before I walked into Just Wright my expectations could only be described as low. Hell, they were leagues under the sea low. There would be no way that this film could win me over, the only Queen Latifah film I have ever liked was Bringing Down The House and it pains me to admit that. Nothing could be more shocking to my pre- Just Wright self than to read, I liked this movie. Now don’t get me wrong it’s not the best film ever, in fact it’s not even close, but for a sports driven romcom it’s not that...
