Arriving at the sparsely filled Beaumont Club a little after 6:30 Dreams are for Rookies were already on stage. A pretty early start time for local bands whose set times are usually closer to 11pm on a Friday night than the 6PM start time that the first annual Popwreckoning.com SXSW showcase kicked off at.
Since I arrived a little after the first set time I only caught the final two songs of Dreams are for Rookies set . They brought some good kick off energy to a crowd in their short thirty minutes on stage. The crowd initially was...

When the doors opened and I got a look at the crowd that began filing into the Beaumont Club on Sunday night, I got a feeling that the show would be special. People of all ages and walks of life entered with smiles of anticipation and nods to each other in understanding of what they were about to witness. It was heartening to see so many different types of people gathered together to have a party – which is exactly what Larry and His Flask, Strung Out and The Dropkick Murphys did. They had one wicked-ass party for Kansas...

As we had previously posted, Starlight Theatre was taking a survey to gauge interest in holding a screening of the concert film Another Version of the Truth: The Gift. The film was assembled by a group of passionate fans under the project name of “This one is on us” using band-shot footage that they released as a “gift” of the 2008-2009 Nine Inch Nails North America ‘Lights in the Sky’ tour.
Well if you are a Nine Inch Nails fan, there is some great news. Response was good enough that Starlight...

New York, NY Los Angeles most touted new band, The Deadly Syndrome will self-release their sophomore album Nolens Volens on March 23 on iTunes and other DSPs.
This digital only release follows the band’s critically acclaimed 2007 debut album The Ortolan. While garnering rave reviews for their album, The Deadly Syndrome also established themselves as one of the West Coast’s most electrifying live bands and must-see acts in Los Angele, indie music scene. Throughout the last few years the band has played multiple acclaimed...

Ok we all know that after Twilight the most marketable thing you can do is go “Vamp.” It seems that everyone is jumping on the band wagon music included. If you follow the site, you know that I’m not a big fan of this blood-sucking band wagon, so when I was handed the the assignment to review the newest release from Vampires Everywhere!, “Lost in the Shadows” I was less than thrilled. Before I sat down to give the whole album a full listen, I gave it a small 15 second preview and was reminded of...

This concert was supposed to happen at the beginning of October, but had to be rescheduled due to Hayley Williams of Paramore getting laryngitis. Paramore played the Uptown with Paper Route and The Swellers as opening bands. I had never been to the Uptown before so was pleasantly surprised by the gaudy decor inside. It gave it more of a theatre feel, more so than the Music Hall. The concert was general admission, so we (my two friends and I) got there about 30 minutes prior to the start time. We sat in the balcony which...

She Wants Revenge is the only band I know that can bring together Spiderman, pregnancy tests, and glowing guitars in a dark, sweaty venue. Sounds crazy you say? Believe me, it surprised me too. Add to those some rockin’ dance beats, a dash of alcohol, and an interview with Adam Bravin (see at the end of the review), and you have one hell of a show in an unsuspecting setting.
When I got to The Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS, I had some doubts about the location for this show. Being an Eastern Jackson County Missouri...

I arrived early at The Granada for the show and spent my time watching the random crowd of friendly strangers file in. From moms bringing their daughters, to the cool college kids decked out in plaid and headbands, to the yuppies that just got off work, this crowd wasn’t missing any genre, there was even a Slipknot shirt spotted. Overall, the crowd felt relaxed, and unconcerned, that was until the opening band, Red Cortez took to the stage. The four piece is a recently signed group from Los Angeles and was surprisingly...

I write this review with great sadness knowing that, at least for the foreseeable future, I will not be able to enjoy my favorite band live anymore. Nine Inch Nails had their Wave Goodbye tour sweep through the US through out the summer. With the knowledge that this would be the last of the shows, we quickly picked up tickets to the Kansas City and Chicago stops in May. Not long after that, Trent had decided (while he was touring overseas) he didn’t like the way the US tour had ended for him. There was curfew problems and...

As I continue following the Nine Inch Nails Wave Goodbye tour, weekend two brought me to Chicago for two shows. Since Ryan and Angela were also attending this weekend’s shows, I chose a hotel close to theirs since we were sharing a car. They were staying at the Hyatt Regency O’hare, which is where they flew in. I chose the Aloft Hotel a “vision”of W hotels a few blocks away.
After weekend one, in New York where I stayed in a run of the mill, cookie cutter like, however clean Holiday Inn, the Aloft was...

Great show last night. I have 2 of their albums, but don’t really know all of their songs. My buddy Joe had seen them before and told me that they put on a good show. Hey, for $25 I was willing to check them out!
So, after a quick bite at the Flying Saucer Café ($15 for 2 beers and a dog food burger? But, the waitresses were in school girl skirts, heels and thigh high stockings, so it all evens out) we strolled into the Sprint Center. …

From ‘Tragic Kingdom’ to Magic Kingdom, No Doubt brought fun to Starlight Theater Monday night.
Things got under way shortly after 7:30 when Bedoin Soundclash brought their So Cal Ska/Punk flavored sounds to the stage to warm up the predominately female and age diverse crowd. While many were still finding their seats it set the tone for what would be a laid back fun time on an atypically cool July night.
Once Bedoin Soundclash completed their set the the female front woman of Paramore Hayley Williams
All eyes were...

Got to the Qwest Center in Omaha at 7:00 Saturday, after a 3 1/2 hour drive. We were ready for some live music! We had seen Steve Winwood last summer opening for Tom Petty and knew we were in for a good show, first time for both Sherri and I to see Clapton.
At 8:15 the band walked out on stage, Eric wearing jeans and a short sleeved black shirt and Steve wearing jeans and a grey pullover. They were backed by bass, drums, a great keyboard player and 2 women back up singers. …
