Breakout Kings, while initially developed for FOX landed at A&E, is a show about a group of US Marshalls who use prisoners as a way of catching other prisoners. If you are thinking this sounds like a twisted version of Prison Break you aren’t alone in your thinking. Of course the fact that the show was created by two of the writers/producers of Prison Break, Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora kind of helps push that type of thinking along.
Luckily for Breakout Kings, the premise goes well beyond breaking out of jail,...

In the spirit of good writing I am going to spoil parts of this movie for you. I realized on my first draft of the review that much like the show LOST, you can not fully converse about the movie without spoiling details for others. So, here is my fair warning that if you want absolute surprise when you see the film, look away now. I won’t spoil the whole thing if you want to take a “chance”.
This film is like LOST in more ways than one. First and foremost is the relationship between David Norris and Elise. Their...

Everyone has those classic 80′s movies that they look back fondly on, Sixteen Candles, The Goonies, Ghostbusters, Labyrinth, etc. The list really does go on, doesn’t it? So much awesome shit came out of the 80′s, it’s very easy to make movies cashing in on that nostalgic feeling everyone gets when they see legwarmers and jellies. Take Me Home Tonight (originally titled “Kids in America”) is one of those movies, Deloreans and cocaine mixing with big hair and classic music.
The plot of Take...

Rango is the story of a (potentially unstable) chameleon who goes from being a house pet to the sheriff of a town called Dirt. Beginning with falling out of the back of his family’s car, his journey is a very unique comedy, blending slapstick, witty banter and dark humor with ease. It’s truly difficult to summarize some of the plot to tell you what you’re going to see. Not that it doesn’t have a plot, but each plot point seems to blend into the next, creating one fluid story that flows together....

Wanna live through the eighties again? Or maybe as an older version of yourself that can make independent decisions like what to wear, what parties to attend and whether or not to do coke for the first time? You could discover yourself in Topher Grace’s new film Take Me Home Tonight, in theaters March 4th. I sat down with Topher when he decided to pop into Kansas City for some chilly air and barbecue. I know the weather may be nice now, but when we spoke, there were several inches of snow on the ground.
We discuss the movie...

The touring production of Grease stopped into Kansas City’s Music Hall for the February production of Broadway across Americas season. For those curious, the thirteenth longest running musical in history did come before the 1978 film which many are, I am willing to guess, much more familiar with. I can’t say I am as I’ve never seen the film. Sure I’ve heard “Summer Nights” and a couple of melodies from the film/show over the years but short of that I was about as blank a slate as...

Hall Pass offers lots of laughs but always walks a fine line to please the woman in every man’s life. Generally, lots of movies do this. You know, the men in these movies are always dumb and funny, but ultimately can’t wipe their own ass with out their loving wife by their side. Hall Pass buys right into this theory as the men have gone too far with their vulgar sense of humor and horny wandering eyes and the wives have reached their limit with making excuses for them. Rick and Fred (Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis...

Drive Angry 3D is like a pinata full of goodies and a few little turds mixed in. The goodies involved, I’m sure you could figure out, are Nic Cage in his peak of rage and the fact that the film was actually filmed in 3D to begin with, rather than post-conversion. The biggest turd in the pinata was the plot of the storyline, although some might see the plot as the whole reason to call this a new-age Grindhouse flick.
First, I would just like to say to Hollywood and Nic Cage, “Thank you.” Thanks for finally realizing...

This is a late addition to the review pile for I Am Number Four which came out this past Friday, February 19th. Rather than give you one of my normal, opening day movie reviews I thought I would change it up a bit, having heard some buzz about certain issues with the movie. I really liked the trailers for I Am Number Four. They were well done, and intriguing enough that I wanted to see and review the movie.
Before I Am Number Four came out, there was already buzz about its star, Alex Pettyfer. This is his first big movie,...

Transmetropolitan
Writer-Warren Ellis
Artist: Darrick Robertson
Publisher: DC Comics
This is a series that puts the “dis” in dystopian. What sick road are the likes of the Koch brothers, Fox News and The Tea Party taking us down? It is the road to ruin and that’s where Spider Jerusalem dwells. Spider is the natural heir to journalists who use words like blunt instruments of savagery. He is Dr. Hunter S. Thompson in a grave new world where science has only streamlined the horror and made it deliverable to the...

Unknown is the twisting and turning story of Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) and his struggle to discover his identity. Not just Martin Harris, mind you. I’m attempting to get you ready to hear that quite a bit, because he drills the word “Doctor” into your brain. Not since Shutter Island’s “Duly Appointed Marshall” have I heard so much repetition. Anyway, Dr. Martin Harris gets into one nasty car wreck after arriving in Berlin, leaving him a little shaken and completely replaced in his life...

Ed Helms is seemingly best known for his roll on The Office, at least from my experience whenever I mention his name that seems to be the first thing out of people’s mouths when brought up. A close second to that would be his role as Stu in the 2009 breakout hit The Hangover. I mention this as this is the first time I can think that Helms has gotten top billing in a comedy. Though contrary to what the poster for the 2009 blacklisted script for the new film, and Helms star Cedar Rapids would have you believe, it is more...

After just seeing the intense and violent film Brotherhood, Sarah jumped at the chance to interview the cast and director to grill them for some insight on the film. Read her Brotherhood review here.
Sarah talked with Director Will Canon, and cast from left to right: Arlen Escarpeta, Jon Foster and Lou Taylor Pucci. They discuss all of the grueling training they went through to prepare for this role and Jon shows us exactly what they had to do to keep the energy up while filming, along with a lot of Red Bull.
Check out the interview...
