Just a couple of news bits on both The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.
Twitter was all a flutter yesterday with the news spreading fast that Eclipse needed re-shoots. Panic set in amongst the Twihards; I was worried myself. Re-shoots less than three months before the movie is out in theatres is not a good sign. Adding fuel to the fire was the rumor that Chris Weitz or Catherine Hardwicke were going to be directing the re-shoots. Combine that with the fact that Robert Pattinson is scheduled for pre-production...

Street Sweeper Social Club is a live band that needs to find a way to capture it’s live sound on record. There, I said it. That has been bothering me about the Boots Riley and Tom Morello project since the first time I saw their energetic live show opening for the NIN|JA tour last summer.
On this particular evening at the Rusty Spurs I would be treated to an even more energetic live show than those I had experienced previously. SSSC had been pretty quiet since last summer’s NIN|JA tour and the release of their first...

Liars looked a bit worn out (who isn’t at SXSW?) and sun burnt when they took to the temporarily very crowded outdoor stage at Club De Ville. I was stuck well outside of the tent in the full brunt of the sun. I’m not sure if it was the general malaise of the afternoon knowing I had a long evening in front of me or what but this is easily one of the most subdued shows I have ever bared witness to.
I first became aware of Liars with their 2006 release Drums Not Dead. The album didn’t really grab me the way...

The garage simplistic sound of just a guitar and a drum player has been a sound seeing a pretty big resurgence in the last couple of years. The stylings vary, from well known yet still not quite mainstream acts like the Black Keys, and the now four piece Wavves. Japanther brings a similar Lo-Fi effects-heavy sound but with a decidedly more punk sound that shows in their New York roots.
In the crowded and warm Buffalo Billiards second floor, it seemed many were continuing to fill in for headliner Andrew W.K. I don’t think...

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings hearken back to a bygone era of music. Well, soul music hasn’t really faded away. It’s prominence is not what it once was. Further, no artist has had the impact of James Brown “The Godfather of Soul” or the kind of cross-cultural impact that he had.
In today’s continually fracturing niche markets of music driven by the MP3/iPod age, it would be hard to imagine any one artist or act having a similar impact to Brown, or any artist for that matter; but that is another...

I made it in through the back entrance of Emo’s a few songs into Fucked Up’s set. Vocalist Damian Abraham still had his shirt on so I must not have missed too much of it. For the uninitiated, Abraham has a tendency during their shows to remove his shirt. Something he would later in the set mention was first done at this very place some years ago. He said, “it was a day bigger guys suddenly felt a little more okay about who they were.”
Seeing Fucked Up live is quite an experience. The hardcore punk band...

After a long car ride on a beautiful day we had arrived at Liberty Hall and were transferred to another time as the band Sleepy Sun took the stage. Sleepy Sun had taken us to a time where the music was honest and a band just needed to immerses itself in the music to be noticed. The classic sound of this sunny bad had taken over the crowd and won over their pop rock minds. They had done the same to me as well as I had enjoyed Sleepy Sun though head phones but that is nothing compared to how I feel about the band live. They have...

Tonight’s episode kind of made my head hurt. Not because it was bad, I really liked it, but because it was really causing me to think back to season one and two about a lot of things. Things about Libby and Michael, and history with Desmond and so on and so on. Tonight was mostly about Hugo, hence the name.
On the island, he finally has people listening to him. After Illana ignores his requests of not blowing up the plane, she drops the bag of dynamite and BOOM. I saw it coming from a mile away. I mean, they weren’t...

Arriving in Lawrence I quickly realized that school was still in session. The older I get, the younger these college kids appear, and more bizarrely they seem to dress. GET OFF MY LAWN!!! Guess I’m getting old; such was the case with the crowd at the Bottleneck for an evening that would prove to be deafeningly loud (in a good way.)
Walking into easily one of the most generation diverse crowds I’ve encountered as of late I even think that the number of those under twenty one sporting the obvious black X’s...

The Days Inn is a completely average hotel amongst most standards. However, when you are staying in Austin, Texas for the South by Southwest Festival, it becomes a luxury hotel, when you can’t possibly afford to spend $300 a night to stay at a bigger name brand hotel. I was going to be staying here for about 9 nights, so it had to meet a few expectations: are the beds comfy, are the rooms quiet and does the air conditioning work well?
Well, I got all that and more. In fact, I was sharing the room with two other people and...

It has been a while since I posted one of my Round Up compilations of trailers, so I thought I would do some smaller trailer posts as to not overload you in a mass post. I was going to do a mass post, but the procrastinator in me knows that will take me forever. I won’t be as detailed with my little write-ups of each trailer for the next few Lost in Previews, but I definitely wanted to have these trailers available for our lovely followers to enjoy.
In this edition of Lost in Previews, we have the trailers for The Expendables,...

Oh wow, oh wow, oh bloody freaking wow! If there are any ABC folks reading this and you are right now at this very moment trying to decide whether to renew V or FlashForward, I say this one thing “Screw V and renew FF now, no right now!” At first I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to pay much attention to tonight’s episode (and frankly I did have a hard time for the first 30 minutes) because back in my real world worked sucked and I was still trying to de-stress. So needless to say, as ...

I was given the opportunity to interview Floria Sigismondi for her directorial debut in the new movie, The Runaways. Previously, her work has consisted of music videos and photography. Look for our review on the film here. This interview was what is called a round-table interview, in which other critics/reporters and myself try our hardest to confuse and embarrass the talent we are interviewing. Just kidding, you will hear other voices though, that I can not name. For the sake of continuity, all questions asked by others...

To be honest, Date Night didn’t look like it would be a fabulous comedy from the trailers. I personally have a beef with Steve Carell playing the dumbest man on Earth in The Office. However, I love Tina Fey; who doesn’t want her life?
Date Night is the story of Phil and Claire Foster, a married couple in the suburbs of New Jersey with kids, full time jobs and no time for romance. Each week, a nanny comes over and gives them a date night which lets them spend their time at the local restaurant with their regular salmon...
