The trailer for Black Swan has appeared today, and I was definitely waiting for it to come out after some stills from the movie were released. Black Swan is a Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream) directed film starring Vincent Cassel, Natalie Portman, and Mila Kunis. It is a ballet- based plot with rivalries, stalking, girl smooching, and a weird element which I am not quite sure about. Wait for the last few seconds of the trailer, and you will know what I mean. Winona Ryder and Barbara Hershey also star.
Black...

It was announced today that Rooney Mara will be Lisbeth Salander to Daniel Craig’s Mikael Blomkvist in the US version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. David Fincher will be directing as previously reported and shooting will begin in Sweden next month. Mara was signed to appear in all three Millennium trilogy films. Please check out a previous post for other cast members.
Rooney Mara will be seen in Fincher’s The Social Network, which may have given her a running start for the audition process. She was...

Batman-War On Crime

I know just how The Joker feels. The Batman is the man I love. I should be disturbed by that admission. For just about all my reading life he’s been my favorite. Fourteen columns and three of them deal with him out of the hundreds of characters out there to be read about. After this I’m prescribing about a year’s Bat rest for him. Although we may take a look at other residents in Gotham in a few months.
The Batman created...

This week on Blu Monday, we take you through the pros and cons of The Last Song on Blu Ray, Cougar Town Season One on DVD, Ugly Betty The Fourth and Final season on DVD all available on Tuesday, August 17th and Ajami on Blu Ray available on Tuesday, August 24th.
Video Summary:
The Last Song (Blu Ray): With beautiful visuals and an enjoyable soundtrack minus the songs by Miley Cyrus, the story holds up to the previous Nicholas Sparks’ stories for a good film. The down side is that the star is Miley Cyrus and doesn’t...

Beauty and the Beast is one of those shows that is difficult to review as I feel it may be nearly critic proof. I state that as I feel most patrons will have already made up their minds when they attend as to what they are in for. To be sure it is approximately a straight forward adaptation of the Disney animated classic with several new numbers sprinkled in. That said animated classic also happens to be the first animated feature to ever be nominated for an Academy Award best picture. Yes, it was that good. So does the stage...

How Do You Know has a trailer that is a bit awkward. The movie follows former softball athlete Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) in a love triangle of sorts with her current baseball boyfriend (Owen Wilson) and corporate guy (Paul Rudd). From the trailer, I get the impression that there are three different main characters while the synopsis indicates otherwise. It is a somewhat funny trailer with an unexpected appearance from Jack Nicholson. James L. Brooks (The Simpsons) wrote and directed How Do You Know. The movie also stars...

Love and Other Drugs is a romantic comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. These two guys, of course, fall in love after trying to “keep it simple.” Gyllenhaal plays a drug rep and Hathaway plays a “free spirit” or whatever that means. The trailer is entertaining and mildly amusing. I have to say that the Gyllenhaal is bringing the cuteness in this movie (sorry, I am a girl). Edward Zwick co-wrote the screenplay and directed, which gives me hope that this will be a good movie. Zwick...

I hope people weren’t expecting relief from the heat at Tuesday’s Primus show, because it was just as hot in the Uptown Theatre last night as it was outside, all day. In fact, had they not opened up air-conditioned resting areas, they would probably have just been rescuing people from total heat exhaustion all night, and at a completely sold-out show like this one, I’m sure it would have been a big issue. I’ve been to some hot concerts before, but at this one, I think the Uptown could have made a run for the record...

The Next Three Days is a murder mystery and prison escape story wrapped into one movie. It stars Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Brian Dennehy, Jonathan Tucker, RZA, and the witch doctor from True Blood (Aisha Hinds). I noticed they used the same background music as the final trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
This is a remake of French movie Pour Elle starring Diane Kruger.
The Next Three Days is in theatres November 19, 2010.

On the Road has started production in Montreal and the final cast list has finally been released. On the Road is a movie based on the novel of the same name by Jack Kerouac. It is right now scheduled for a 2011 release date, but no specific date has been given. The cast has turned out to quite good: Sam Riley, Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, Elizabeth Moss, Alice Braga, Tom Sturridge, Danny Morgan, and Terrence Howard.
Based on that cast list, I will be eagerly...

If you have been living under a rock, you may not know of the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest). Originally written in Swedish, the books have been translated into many languages and have been or are bestsellers. The Swedish versions of all three books have already been made and released in Europe. So far, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (now on DVD) and The Girl Who Played With Fire (now in theatres) have...

At some point in every woman’s life, and probably a man’s as well, it hits us that we don’t have any direction. We sit up and wonder how we got to this point and fondly think back about the days when you used to tell everyone that you have ambitions and dreams of traveling the world, or finding a cure for cancer. Then it hits you, you haven’t done any of that. How could you have just let yourself go like this? Liz Gilbert finds herself in this same predicament after a marriage she is not satisfied with...

Hey man, do you like things that are awesome with snarky humor that would make your mom say, “WHHAAT?!?” and just leave you rolling your eyes in total humiliation? Then you will love, cue the movie guy voice, Scott Pilgrim VS the World!!!! That’s right kids this is the homage to your youth that you’ve been waiting for!
Scott Pilgrim vs The World isn’t your typical comic book movie. There are no caped crusaders or robot-powered super heroes in this story. In fact it’s more like 500 Days of Summer...
